Topology views: L1/L2/L3, verified vs inferred

How the Live Network Map renders physical, VLAN and routed views, what solid vs dashed edges mean, and how to save and export views.

Overview

The Live Network Map renders the same underlying graph in three layers: L1 (physical adjacency), L2 (VLAN/switching) and L3 (routed subnets), plus a combined view. Overlays re-color the same nodes for health, security, compliance, lifecycle, changes, VLAN or subnet — without changing the underlying edges.

Solid edges are verified: observed directly by LLDP/CDP, or confirmed by a human. Dashed edges are inferred — from forwarding tables, routes, vendor APIs or AI inference — and are labelled with their source protocol.

Provenance on every edge

Hovering or clicking an edge shows its protocol/source, first/last seen timestamps, the collector that observed it, a confidence score, the interface names on each end, and each interface's current operational status.

  • Verified: LLDP or CDP neighbor discovery, or a human confirming a suggested link.
  • Inferred: MAC forwarding tables (FDB), routing tables, ARP, vendor APIs, or AssurIQ's own AI inference from co-occurring signals.
  • Inference is never silently promoted to verified — only an explicit human confirmation does that.

Saved views and export

A layer, overlay and filter combination can be saved as a named view and optionally included in generated reports. Saved views persist per customer and can be reopened from the map toolbar.
